Toronto Metropolitan University Master of Health Administration (Community Care) program and CCHL Renew Three-Year Strategic Alliance

Published on March 18, 2026

The renewed partnership agreement promotes excellence in the health leadership field and provides the students in the Toronto Metropolitan University, Master of Health Administration Community Care (MHA CC) program with an expedited and cost-effective pathway to the the Certified Health Executive (CHE) Program.

The Toronto Metropolitan University MHA CC program has renewed its strategic alliance with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) to increase the leadership capabilities of health care managers in Canada.

The CHE designation is the only national certification program for Canadian health leaders. This program offers individual leaders several benefits including support for lifelong learning in health services leadership; assistance with career advancement; peer recognition and serves as an essential career designation.

Stephan (Steve) Plourde, CHE, Chief Operating Officer at CCHL, said: “Our renewed alliance with Toronto Metropolitan University represents more than a partnership — it reflects a shared vision for innovation, system transformation, and leadership excellence.”

James (Jim) Tiessen, the MHA CC Program Director said: “We are delighted to renew our alliance with the Canadian College of Health Leaders. Community care and support, and indeed the broader health sector needs capable leaders equipped to face current and future challenges, particularly as our population ages. The CCHL provides terrific opportunities for our graduates to continue their learning and leadership paths.”

This collaboration will also allow for both organizations to better address the constantly evolving needs of health leaders and align themselves with the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework. This framework is a foundation for Canadian health leadership development and defines the knowledge, skills and attitudes a leader must have to positively contribute to the Canadian health care system.

The MHA (Community Care) is the only Canadian professional graduate degree oriented towards this dynamic and complex sector. More care and support are being delivered outside hospitals, where costs are lower and patients want to be. This program prepares leaders to negotiate and manage care and support delivery across networks of provider organizations to a range of clients and families.
