Primary Care Networks – Network of Executive Directors (NEDs) and CCHL Renew Three-Year Strategic Alliance

Published on May 7, 2026

The renewed partnership agreement serves as an avenue to promote excellence in the health leadership field and provide the staff from Primary Care Networks – Network of Executive Directors (NEDs) with a cost-effective pathway to the Certified Health Executive (CHE) Program.

Primary Care Networks – Network of Executive Directors (NEDs) has renewed its strategic alliance with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) to increase the leadership capabilities of health care managers in Canada.

The CHE designation is the only national certification program for Canadian health leaders. This program offers individual leaders several benefits including support for lifelong learning in health services leadership; assistance with career advancement; peer recognition and serves as an essential career designation.

Stephan (Steve) Plourde, CHE, Chief Operating Officer at CCHL, said: “Renewing this partnership with Primary Care Networks’ Network of Executive Directors allows us to build on the momentum we’ve created together and further support leaders who are shaping the future of healthcare.”

Heather Chappell, CHE, Chair of NEDs, said: “This partnership with CCHL provides our Primary Care Networks the opportunity to connect and learn with leaders from all areas of healthcare, and supports the growth and development of the next generation of Primary Care leaders.”

This collaboration will also allow for both organizations to better address the constantly evolving needs of health leaders and align themselves with the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework. This framework is a foundation for Canadian health leadership development and defines the knowledge, skills and attitudes a leader must have to positively contribute to the Canadian health care system.

About Primary Care Networks – Network of Executive Directors (NEDs)

The Network of Executive Directors (NEDs) is a provincial network of Primary Care Networks (PCN) Executive Directors established to provide a coordinated, representative leadership voice for primary care in Alberta. NEDs brings together executive leaders from across urban, rural, and remote PCNs to promote transparent communication, collaborative problem‑solving, and shared leadership on system‑level issues.

Guided by principles of communication, leadership, responsiveness, and collaboration, NEDs supports alignment across zones, enables strategic partnerships and fosters collective engagement with Alberta Primary and Preventative Health Services, Primary Care Alberta and other key stakeholders to advance Primary Healthcare transformation.
